Redesigning a small garden

This small garden has two patio areas which do not compliment each other and this creates a feeling of cramped space.

The old patio is much nicer than the new one in drab grey, but it is crowded from all sides.

The new patio has been removed and replaced with new turf.

To emphasise the irregular shape of the patio some small planting areas have been cut into the turf.

These beds are lined with weed control fabric and filled with gravel before being planted with culinary herbs and some alpine plants.

The gravel theme is continued under the cyclamen which has been trimmed and lifted to give more space.

The border on the other side of the path also needs some attention.

The same gravel is used to cover the border and it has been planted with shade tollerant ferns and foliage plants.
